MY TABLE



Beth feels her body being lifted and carried gently, her head falls backwards but she has no strength to right it. She feels safe in the strong arms.

A memory tugs at her drugged mind.

Her eyelids are heavy, her hearing intermittent, and nausea assaults her from within.

She can’t remember much, she remembers running, a car, and then nothing but a blur.

She struggles to open her eyes, she manages and looks up at the man carrying her.

Her memory momentarily returns and she realises why she feels safe.

He has rescued her.

Again.

She smiles before blacking out.

We have completely different lifestyles.

I sleep during the day; She sleeps at night.

I sleep in a freezer; She sleeps in a bed.

I drink blood.; Blood flows through her veins.

My heart doesn’t beat; Her heart races because of me.

I shy away from the sun; she delights in its warm caress.

I miss the past; she looks forward to the future.

But together, we have found a way to make things work. Together we have found a place between both worlds to call our own.

Together we will remain.

I am immortal; She is mortal.

For now.
